I met Sam when she was probably still in junior high – sweet as could be, and riding around at the barn in all of her free time. Over the last 5 years, I’ve watched her grow into a young lady that I totally admire! I made sure that she modeled for me this past summer as she entered her final year of high school @ Sandra Day O’Connor. Not only is Sam an insanely talented equestrian, but she possesses the strength, courage, and confidence that are typical of girls in the equestrian world. Her partner in crime, the handsome man in these images with her, is Max. Sam isn’t the first girl that he has teamed up with in the sport of eventing, but she will be the last. In a short while, sweet Max will be celebrating a life well-lived by retiring to a grassy pasture back east. He’s worked hard to take care of several girls during his long life. Watching Sam with him, though, it’s hard to believe that these two are even separate beings. I’m sure that Max will miss Sam just as much as she misses him. But sometimes, growing up is painful – and celebratory – all at the same time. It’s bittersweet. Sam is heading off to college this fall to study for a degree in pharmacology (sorry if I messed that up, Sam!) ; ). She has dreams and goals and a strong family to help her reach for them. But Max has lived his life, given his heart and mind and spirit, and these two have to go different directions. I’m proud of Max *and* Sam, and the rewards that are coming their way for the hard work that each of them has done. Thank you for trusting me to capture your relationship together, Sam ~ you are an incredible young lady, and I know Max thinks so, too. xoxo
